Glad You Asked
Being well prepared both to answer and to ask excellent questions is integral to a successful interview. We believe a successful interview occurs when both parties end up knowing whether proceeding to the next step makes sense.
Questions Candidates Should Consider Asking
- How do you define success in your department? How do you know when you have achieved your goals?
- I believe that it is critical for an IT Auditor to understand how each IT Audit project fits into the overall goals of the organization. What would you say is the one project your group has completed in the past 6 months which has had the greatest impact?
- During our conversation today I have attempted to give you a clear picture of what I have to offer. Based on your current understanding of my skills, could you describe some potential projects where I could be a valuable contributor?
- I'm interested in learning how you identify and evaluate risks. How do you determine which areas to focus on? How do you make sure you are working smart, and not just working hard?
- I constantly strive to keep up with the developments in technology that make our profession so dynamic and challenging. What are the primary IT issues that impact your business right now? How is your department involved in addressing the issues?
Questions Candidates Should Be Prepared to Answer
- Describe to me your current boss's vision for your department. How close is your department to achieving this vision? How have you propelled the department toward its goals?
- What have been your three highest priorities during the last 12 months? Where do you stand in terms of addressing these priorities?
- Despite our best efforts, things don't always go as smoothly as planned. Describe an obstacle you have encountered in your current position, and how you dealt with this obstacle.
- In the rapidly changing IT environment, staying current on technology developments and trends is critical to the success of IT Audit and Security personnel. Describe the specific steps you take to keep up your technical skills.
- Communication skills are arguably as critical as technical skills to the IT Auditor's success. Describe a time when an audit customer did not share your point of view. What were the circumstances? How did you communicate with the customer? What was the result?
